Masks Polluting Our Oceans

Masks Polluting Our Oceans

The COVID-19 pandemic lead to an estimated 52 billion face masks produced in 2020, and more than 1.5 billion of those masks will make their way into our planet’s oceans, according to an estimate by OceansAsia. These masks will be joining the other 8 million tons of plastic that end up in our oceans every year, causing serious harm to the marine mammals, seabirds, fish, invertebrates and other animals even on land. See the slides below for a brief presentation on this topic.
